La Tomatina Festival
The concept of throwing tomatoes sounds amusing but it’s actually something that people in Bunol in the Spanish state of Valencia love to do. On the last Wednesday of August every year, people in Bunol will participate in the La Tomatina Festival.
But what would people in Bunol throw a bunch of tomatoes at other people? It’s not clear as to why they started doing so. Still, it is believed that people started the tradition after attacking members of the local government by throwing tomatoes in protest of their actions.
The activity was enjoyed by people so much that they decided to make it into a special annual tradition. This led to people throwing tomatoes each year. It was a fascinating activity that people simply do just for fun.
Over the years the event has evolved to where tomato suppliers will offer their own tomatoes during the event. Also, an entry fee has been added with a limit on the number of people who can participate. This was all established with the intention of protecting all the people at the event.
