Jayalalitha is a very popular name in Indian Politics. She is one of the Chief Ministers who have held the position for quite a long time. Popularly known as Amma, Jayalalithaa Jayaram was a veteran actress before she walked into the world of politics. She leads the party namely AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) where she is the general secretary. She has been the most popular actress in the south Indian cinema and now the most popular party leader in the southern part of the nation. She was also famous for the inappropriate asset case that was filed in her name when she was prohibited from holding her own office even after elected as Chief Minister.

Early Life

Jayalalithaa was born in the year 1948 on 24th February. She was only 2 years old when she lost her father who was a lawyer. She then moved to Bangalore from Karnataka where she was born with her mother to her maternal grandparents. Amma was always a studious and bright student. She stood first in the 10th standard in all over the state Tamil Nadu. She was been awarded as Gold Star Award by the government of India and also a scholarship for her further higher studies. Amma spent her entire childhood without her parents. After his father’s death her mother moved to other city to pursuit her career in drama and movies.

Jayalalithaa can speak fluently in multiple languages like Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil and English. Apart from a scholar student Jayalalithaa was a brilliant classical dancer, western Piano player and also trained in classical music. She was trained in diverse forms of classical dance such as Mohiniattam, Bharatnatyam, Kathak and also Manipuri. She started performing on stage when she was in school.

Career – Films

Jayalalithaa, commonly known as Amma at young age, was always close to film industry as her mother and her maternal aunt (mother’s sister) both were attached to South Indian Film Industry. She has started her film career at a very young age as a child artist in the movie named Sri Shaila Mahatme. This Kannada film was released in 1961. She was highly encouraged by the ace actor Shree Shivaji Ganeshan when he saw her performing on stage at a dance program during 60s.

Jayalalitha was not a new face in the film studios as she often visited the place with her mother during her vacations. In the year 1965 she debuted in the Tamil movie namely Vennira Aadai. She before the movie happened acted in theatres and stage shows during 1964. After her first movie she had done nearly 140 movies in her entire career in different languages.

Political Career

Amma joined AIADMK party in the year 1982. At that time the party was leading by Ramachandran. She was a known face in Tamil Nadu for her film career so it was not a tough job for her to pursue her career in politics as well. She had come to fame in political world when her speech on the greatness of a woman had gained immense appreciation in the same year.

After couple of years Ramachandran had suffered severe stroke due to that he declared Amma as the Chief Minister and General Secretary of the party. Ramachandran’s death led the party to divide in two parts, one was leading by his widow and another one was by Amma. In 1989 she contested again and elected as the Chief Minister. After ’89, in 1991, 2002, 2006, 2011, 2015 and 2016 respectively she kept electing as Chief Minister of the state of Tamil Nadu.

She is said to be the only Chief Minister who was banned from holding CM office due to inappropriate asset case. She got back her office and chair in the next election in 2002 when she was again elected with major votes.

Latest News

In recent time her health seemed to be deteriorating. She was admitted to a private hospital on 22nd September 2016 with infection and dehydration problem. After a month she started recovering when she got severe heart attack on 4th of December 2016 and shifted to CCU in the same hospital. A rumour spread overnight that she has lost her life but hospital authority assured that she is still alive but critical.
