However, with the advent of IPL cricket format in the country, dreams of new and budding players have received a fresh lease of life. With its live coverage and a fan following numbering in the billions, success in the IPL propels even the most unknown cricketer to dizzying heights of fame and fortune. Things which were previously the exclusive reserves of international superstars are now for the taking by even the junior-most players in the squads. No longer does a player need to represent his country to be famous. Doing well in the IPL will grant him that and much more. Others may be of a different opinion but the IPL provides opportunities to players who may not be able to break into the national team. Indian Premier League came as a boon for all aspiring cricketers of the nation as this platform not only provides the much-needed financial security but also provides the opportunity to perform in front of millions of cricket fans.
Aniket Choudhary- An Introduction
One of the beneficiaries of IPL is a burly left arm seamer from Rajasthan called Aniket Choudhary. The 6-feet 4-inch-tall seamer was born Aniket Vinod Choudhary in Bikaner, Rajasthan, on the 28th of January, 1990. The seamer plays for his state team Rajasthan, has played for India A and was also a part of the Kings XI Punjab franchise in the IPL of 2013.
The Rising Star
The pacer is a consistent performer in the domestic circuit and has taken more than 120 wickets in first-class matches including a 10-wicket haul. Choudhury was already a good performer with the ball when an injury in the Ranji 2015-16 season put him out of the game for a period of 5 months. However, this layoff turned out to be a turning point for his cricketing career as he met pace legend Glenn McGrath at the MRF Pace Foundation, which he frequented during his recuperation.

It was here that M. Senthilnathan, who is the head coach and Glenn McGrath instilled in him, the importance of regular training to minimise the chance of injuries, and by following their lessons the pacer now bowls north of the 140 kmph mark regularly, often hitting speeds in excess of 145 kmph, which for an Indian bowler is very impressive. Such is the fearsome reputation he has amassed with his pace and bounce that he has been used by the Indian team frequently to train in the nets to help them counter international pacers.
He was with the Indian team in the recently concluded Test series against New Zealand, where he was used by the Indian batsman in the nets, to prepare on how to counter Trent Boult. Even now he continues to be with the team as they prepare to take on Australia. Aniket Choudhary is helping the Indian batsman prepare to counter the fearsome Mitchell Starc. With his left arm action and the 6 feet 4-inch frame, Aniket can dish out some truly scary deliveries including a deadly bouncer that he has perfected.
All roads lead to RCB and eventually Team India
Team India coach and a legend in his own right, Anil Kumble has gone on record stating that Aniket Choudhary along with two others are being considered as future pace prospects for Team India, and the fact that Aniket took 4 wickets against Bangladesh at a warm-up match in Hyderabad a few weeks before can only have helped his case. However, the good times don’t seem to end for this young lad as he has been picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore for a colossal amount of Rs. 2 crores for IPL 2017 and he couldn’t be happier. The joy of playing in the IPL apart, the fact that he will be playing under the leadership of his favorite cricketer i.e. Virat Kohli has him grinning from ear to ear.
Will Aniket Choudhary make it to team India?
That we cannot say for sure as of now. With time, if this talented player manages to show off his skills and consistency in the Twenty20 format, he may become a top contender for a bowling spot in Team India. Possibly then, he will become India’s fitting reply for international teams like South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, West Indies and more. Let’s wish him luck.
