Aakhri Daao (Old Doordarshan TV Serial)
Aakhri Daao is one of the many shows that had stolen the hearts of Indian audience. Doordarshan had witnessed a gala time during 80s. The shows at that point of time were one of a kind that depicted deep emotions and relationship values. Aakhri Daao is one of them that did not fail to impress the audience.
By the time show came and hit on small television, both the leading actors Deepti Naval and Farooq Sheikh had already gained immense popularity through commercial films. So when the show came up, it already gained huge popularity by the star cast of the show. The show came at prime time when most of the people are at home to enjoy the TV. Anil Pathak, being a director of the show had done a splendid job. The concept of a small town girl’s struggle in a big city life was perfectly shown in the show.
Plot
The show was based on a girl who used to live in a small village. The girl (played by Deepti naval) came to the big city Mumbai to survive. The simple girl was struggling with her life when she met a guy (played by Farooq Sheikh). The guy and the girl started meeting each other and used to enjoy each other’s company. Both of them were somewhere in the same situation.
She falls in love with the guy in no time. The emotion was mutual of course. After quite a hardship the duo started ways to survive in this biggest city in India. Later on the girl with innocent heart got a chance to walk into a new world that is the world of cinema. The girl started working in Hindi films to survive.
At the first place she started enjoying her work, the fame and the success. As the story went on the girl gradually realised that the world is not for her and vice versa. There is a lot more behind those lights and fame. Soon the girl had faced the reality where she found that there is no happiness in this world. The real world of fame and success is as dark as night. By the end of the story the director showed that the girl had gone back to her roots, to her village where she found the real happiness.
Relevance Today
Though the show came a long time back but the story fits into any generation. It is not a new concept that young people go out of their ways to big cities to fulfil their dreams. They want to become rich, famous and successful. But it is definitely not an easy thing to do. The world is not as easy as we think it is. We have become modern, technology driven and trendy, still some stories never change, like how a small town girl comes to big city to survive and how she faces hardship throughout.
Not only for the girls but for the boys as well, the struggle seems same. A famous movie of today’s generation, Fashion by Madhur Bhandarkar showed the same thing. How young people lose their lives under the bright light of fame. Not only in entertainment of fashion or cinema world, but often people move to big cities for jobs, more exposure and what not. All of them face the same survival problems that were shown in this TV show. The show was made 28 years ago when many a people who are reading this were not even born. But they can easily relate to the show even today as the problem remains somewhere same.
Another thing Aakhri Daao had shown was the love story. Love does not mean to hold each other’s hand, but it means never let go off each otehr’s hand even in problems. The show actually depicted a deep love story and how the male partner supported the female throughout.
