Agatha Christie’s Poirot (Old Doordarshan TV Serial)
The show was first created and aired in UK in late 80s. It was the longest running mystery drama on British television. It was telecasted for long 24 years divided in 13 series or seasons. It was a mystery drama that Clive and Brian were the first ones who had planned to document the stories by Agatha Christie. They have created the first 8 episodes of the first season. The final two episodes were created by someone else.
Agatha Christie was a famous writer and show on his creation would automatically do well across the world. The show didn’t fail to do the same of course. The producer duo Clive and Brian were started the show on ITV channel in UK with only 8 episodes, later on 9 and 10 episodes were created as well.
After finishing the first season the second season hit the screen after a year and it lasted for almost the same time as the first season. The final season was aired in the year 2013; on November 13 the last episode of the show was aired.
Plot
Agatha Christie’s Poirot is a detective mystery story by Agatha Christie. It was a bunch of murder mysteries that were shown in a television series. Hercule Poirot was a famous character built by the famous author Agatha Christie. The character was so special to the writer that the character was used in more than 30 novels, 50+ short stories and in a play by the author. Poirot can be found in many characters in diverse stories and novels.
This show was based on mysteries and suspense stories revolving around Poirot. In the USA the same episodes were aired but the name was changed to Poirot. The Agatha Christie’s Poirot show contained all the episodes including the death of the character as well. The last episode of the last season namely Poirot’s last case was aired on 13th November 2013 on ITV. With that episode the show got over forever.
Doordarshan Telecast
As mentioned that the show was aired in many countries after its original release like USA. In India as well the show released during 90s. It hit the national channel during 90s and lasted long till 2012. It was the first show ever on DD channel that was not created here in the nation. The original version in original language was aired on Doordarshan which gained huge popularity across the nation.
Unfortunately due to finance factor during 2012 the show was abruptly closed down by the channel. It was said that there was not enough fund to air the same in India. Due to this the show had to shut down. Unfortunately the audience who were enjoying the mysteries every week had to stop there. In the place of Poirot there were a number of local dramas that came and hit the DD channel within few days of closing down Agatha Christi’s Poirot.
Relevance Today
Agatha Christie is an all time favourite writer for all those readers who love mystery and detective stories. Recreating the stories by filming them and converting them to television series is definitely an event to cheer for.
It is not long that the show had closed down for whatever reason but it is still missed by a huge portion of the country. The episodes are watched by several people from every corner of the nation million times on internet till today. The young generation would definitely love to watch it again if it comes again on our TV screen.
